“Startup Nation: What Bersama and My Accessibility Business Have in Common”

In this episode, Naziaty unpacks the triangle that drives her accessibility startup: business, governance, and grassroots working together to fix what Malaysia's legislation still won't. We trace the gap at the heart of the problem — a toothless Persons with Disabilities Act 2008, a CRPD ratification that was never harmonized into domestic law, and a UBBL 34A that only governs private development, leaving local authorities with no binding obligation to be accessible themselves.
We also draws a striking parallel to Parti Bersama, the political party rebuilt as a startup under Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi — same grassroots-first, merit-based logic, just applied to national politics instead of accessibility. It's a candid look at why Naziaty believes a functioning business, not a waiting game for top-down reform, is what actually moves a stalled system for the roughly 36% of Malaysians — disabled persons, the elderly, and families with young children — still left behind.
